BRITISH DRAMA LEAGUE
PLAY READINGS AT STRATFORD. FOUR SHORT PLAYS ENJOYED. There was an excellent attendance at a play-reading evening held by the Central Taranaki branch of the British Drama League at the Masonic ' hall, Stratford, last night. Over 40 people at-, tended, and four interesting short plays were heard and appreciated. The plays and those taking part were: “Beyond the . Walls” (V. Targuse), Mrs; Dick, Miss -’'Brown, Miss E. Longstaff, Mr. A. Dick; “You Never Can Tell” (Bernard Shaw), Mrs. Amess, Miss A. Uniacke, Miss G. Amess, Miss B. Hale, Messrs. A. H. R. Amess, K. Home, H. von Sturmer; “The Proof of the Pudding” (O. Percy Martin), Miss A. Uniacke, Messrs. W. S. Shepherd and H. Goodman; “The Second Guest,” Messrs. W. J. Hall and E. M. Irving. An offer from Miss G. H. Gardiner, Wellington, to visit Stratford to give instruction to members of the league and friends was accepted at a meeting of the executive held earlier in the evening. Mrs. E. H. Young presided,' and there were also present Mesdames D. Steven and R. Tyrer, Miss R. Furrie, Messrs. H. von Sturmer, W. J. Hall and A. H. R. Amess.
