Mrs. A. Cook is on a holiday visit to Palmerston North. Mrs. Ranford returned on Wednesday from a visit to New Plymouth. Mrs. K. Strachan, who. has been holi-day-making at Wanganui, has returned. Miss B. Tunbridge spent last week-end at Douglas as the guest of Mrs. Reader. Miss Grace Huston is holiday-making at Auckland. Miss Lewers has returned from a motor trip to Auckland. Miss M. Hall has returned after a visit to Mrs. G. J. Hall, Inglewood. Mrs. Tucker, Wanganui, is the guest of Mrs. W. Brocklebank. Mrs. E. Bailey, Eltham, is staying with Mrs. Reynolds. Miss Mavis Darrell, who has been the guest of her cousin, Mrs. Lobb, Ariel Street, has returned to Tatanui. Mrs. J. P. Brien has returned to New Plymouth after a visit to Mrs. W. Tunbridge. Miss Wilson, principal of S. Mary’s School, has returned from a holiday at Hamilton. Miss Thelma Vinsen has returned to Wellington after a visit to her cousin, Mrs. M. Peterson. Miss Alice Kelly has returned to Lepperton after a visit to Miss Kelly, Regan Street. Mrs. L. H. Williams, New Plymouth, is visiting her mother, Mrs. G. Collingwood. Miss Olga Aagaard has returned from Patea, where she was the guest of Mrs. Moore. Mrs. W. J. Polson, who has been ill for some time and who has recently been on a health-recruiting trip to Australia, spent the week-end at Stratford. Mrs. Cecil Wright, Wellington, and her daughter, Miss A. Wright, who have been visiting friends at Stratford returned to their home yesterday. Miss Wright will leave shortly on a visit to the Melbourne centenary celebrations. Mrs. D. McLean entertained the Portland Auction Bridge Club at her residence on Tuesday afternoon, when those present were Mesdames Jardine, Jeffries, Coleman, Furrie, Malone, Lyons, R. Curtis, Steven, Hugo, Spence, Glasgow, Miss Porritt. „ Dr. Doris Gordon has been attending the annual meeting of the New Zealand Obstetrical Society. Yesterday Dr. Doris sailed from Auckland for Sydney and will proceed to Melbourne, where she will stay at the women’s hospital for a month or two. A jolly surprise party visited the residence of Dr. and Mrs. Armstrong on Friday evening, when an enjoyable time was spent in bridge and dancing. Amongst those present were Mesdames Armstrong, Carter, Alston, Bodie, Tyrer, Edwards, Petrie, Batten, Bishop and Miss Squires. Stratford visitors to New Plymouth for the "Du Barry” and “Waltzes From Vienna” included Mesdames W. Bowler, Cresswell, Bellringer, K. Neal, W. Harris, G. Carter, H. Bishop, N. Moss, R. R. Tyrer, Misses G. and N. Fitzgerald, J. Cresswell, N. Ennis, D. Harris, J. Coleman, H. Coward, Harper, M. Curd, Z. and O. Masters, A. Cook and E. Moon.
Mrs. Rowell entertained a number o£ friends at her residence on Thursday afternoon in honour of her sister, Miss Woods. The room was decorated .with spring flowers, and a competition was won by Miss Wilson. Those present were Miss Woods, Mesdames P. Thomson, McLean, Roberton, Cutfield, Mclnnis, E. H. Young, R. Tyrer, H. C. Johnson, Green, McDonald, Misses Spence, Fitchett (Havelock), Wilson, Taylor. The Foresters’ hall was packed on Thursday night for a dance arranged by the Stratford combined hockey clubs, visitors being present from surrounding districts. Some of those present were Misses M. Young, N. Fitzgerald, M. and J. Elgar, M. Longbottom (Inglewood), G. Brown, V. Cuff, M. McCarthy, H. Guy (Kaponga), D. Keightly, M. Burmester, B. Taylor (New Plymouth), C. Pratt, D. Keheley, N. Gardner (Kaponga), K. Rogers, J. Feaver (Inglewood), R. and L. Trass, E. Reeves, N. Keightly (Kaponga), M. Femmel, N. Pratt, I. Schweiters. On Monday evening a surprise party visited the residence of Mrs. H. Masters, prior to her departure for a holiday visit to the centenary , celebrations at Melbourne. An enjoyable time was spent in bridge and dancing and during the evening Mrs. McCready, on of those present, made a presentation to Mrs. Masters, conveying the best wishes for a happy holiday. Mrs. Masters replied. The ladies present were Mesdames H. Masters, D. McCready, A. R. Masters, North, Harris, Macßae, Batten, Alston and Cooper. Mrs. Dick Masters played the music for dancing.
A coming-of-age party was celebrated in the Masonic Hall on Monday evening in honour of Miss Audrey Clements. The evening was spent in dancing and games. Winners of the competitions were: Monte Carlo, Mr. J. Walsh and Miss N. Hirst; bobbing waltz, Mr. H. Hann and Miss V. Stallard; parcel competition, Miss E. Collins. A key was presented by Mr. Clements to his daughter and autographed by all present. Mr. F. Foley was master of ceremonies. Among those present were Mesdames D. Bonner, F. Foley, F. Dodd, E. Stallard, L. E. Dodd, Misses V. Stallard, K. Bonner, E. Collins and Hirst (2).
Mr. and Mrs. Henderson entertained at a birthday party held in the Midhirst Oddfellows Hall recently, the guests of honour being Mr. Cyril Henderson and Mr. Maurice Bell. The hall was decorated and the evening spent in dancing and games. The music for the dancing was supplied by Mr. H. Humphries, Tariki, with extras by Mr. J. Batten and Mr. C. Henderson. A piano duet was played by Misses Joy and Jean Campbell. Those present were: Mesdames Jones, senr., T. Henderson, Jones jr., Misses J. Campbell, P. Stewart, H. Wellington, M. Harrison, E. Wellington, J. Campbell, F. Morrison, P. Nowells, B. Hale, R. Nicholas, J. Hale, I. King, S. Nowell, S. Henderson, E. Wellington, P. Harrison and M. Morrison.
