KAPONGA PLUNKET WORK

POSITION OF THE FINANCES.

MANY CHILDREN ATTENDED TO.

The precarious state of the finances of the branch was referred to by the president, Mrs. A. : V. ' Tait, at the quarterly meeting of the Kaponga subbranch of the Opunake Plunket Society on Wednesday afternoon. The branch had been able to meet its quota to the parent body at the end of June, but no funds were at present in hand to meet the amount of £7 due at the end of September. The president referred to the possibility of the branch having to suspend its operations if funds were not available. '

Some - idea of the undertaking of< the Opunake Society, which comprises Opunake, Manaia, Kaponga and Rahotu, can be had when it is considered that during the past year visits by the nurse to homes totalled 1342, visits of adults to rooms 2307, visits of babies to rooms 2076, and older children visiting rooms 443. These figures are for the whole of the district, and do not include Auroa, which has just joined up as a subbranch.

The total number of children at present under supervision is: Opunake, babies 141, older children 134; Manaia, 68 and 64; Kaponga, 48 and 46; Rahotu, 71 and 43.

A discussion ensued, about ways and means of raising funds to meet immediate needs of the branch and it was decided to hold two card afternoons and a competition. The offer of Mrs. R. Pascoe to hold the first afternoon at her residence on Monday next, and that of Mrs. A. W. Anderson for an afternoon at her residence on October 2 was accepted witti thanks. WOMEN’S GOLF AT ELTHAM.
