CLIFTON ROWING TROPHIES

PRESENTED AT ANNUAL DANCE. SUCCESSFUL EVENT AT WAITARA. There was a large attendance at the Clifton Rowing Club’s annual dance which was held in the Clifton Hall, : Waitara, on Monday night, over 100 couples being present. Music was played by Hooker’s. Merrymakers Orchestra. Mr. W. R. Johns, president of the club, presented last year’s winners with trophies. He congratulated the rowing club on the past season’s success. It was pleasing to see the young men of the town taking.up the clean and healthy sport of rowing. He hoped the coming season would - be still more successful.

Trophy winners were: Club fours, O. A. Keith (stroke), K. Keith, M. Elliot, F. Chittenden and F. Fahy (cox). President’s trophies and Avery Challenge Cup, F. Olsson (stroke), A. Collins, P. Chapman, J. Olsson, N. Nickson (cox). Mr, M. Fahy’s trophies and Drysdale Challenge Cup, W. Johnston (stroke), C. D. Tate, Rami Watson, T. Stockman, F. Fahy (cox). Club fours for set of jerseys, F. Olsson (stroke), ’F. Hoskins, H. Old, J. Olsson, O. Cole (cox). Harris Cup (annual competition between Clifton and New Plymouth Club), T.’ W. Sampson (stroke), K. Keith, N. Willison, J. Olsson,' N. Nickson (cox). The lastnamed crew . also won the lightweight clinker' race, 7 . ■ ' ’■;

During the. supper adjournment, Mr. Stewart Gordon, a member of the orchestra, gave songs and humorous items. Supper was dispensed under the management of Mesdames H. Spurdie, W. Sampson, F. Richards, C. Limmer, P. Jones and Brough. Extras'were played by Mr. R. Grant. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Ewens and Mr. T. Fenton, and a lucky spot one-step by Mrs. Reid and partner. Mr. E. W. Walters was master of ceremonies.
