Miss M. Bright has returned from Wanganui. A Hawke's Bay visitor to Hawera is Miss Phyllis Cato, Takapau. Mrs. C. G. Trotter and family have returned from Auckland. Mrs. H. M. Caselberg returned from Masterton last week-end. . Misses G. Goodson, J. Hunter and P. Ekdahl were visitors to Stratford for the aero club’s ball on Thursday night. Mrs. A. M. Yong and family have returned from Feilding. Mrs. A. F. Beck returned from Waverley early in the week.

Mrs. Leece has returned from Wellington and the Wairarapa. Miss Alison Duffill has returned to Sr. Mary’s, Stratford. Mrs. John Plimmer. Wellington, is spending a fortnight’s holiday with her sister, Mrs. H. H. Bramwell.

Mrs. C. Burgess, Wellington, was recently Mrs. G. A. Burgess’ guest at South Road.

Mrs. A. M. Winks’ guests, Mrs. Broderick and Miss Ailsa Broderick, returned to Wanganui last week-end. Mrs. Orr, Triupo, who was recently visiting Mrs. F. B. Wylds, returned home last week.

Wearing a midnight blue afternoon frock with a cowl neckline, Mrs. Dew Caplen entertained a number of friends at tea on Monday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Shaw spent a few days recently visiting their son, Mr. Gordon Shaw, and his wife at Te Rapa, near Hamilton.

Sister Edson, who has resigned from a position hr charge of the men’s ward at the Hawera hospital,' left Hawera on Saturday for her home in Hawkes Bay. After a short holiday she will go to a position at the Christchurch St. Helen’s hospital.

Miss Jocelyn Lennon gave a happy little dance party for her young friends recently; She wore a pretty frock of forget-me-not blue punched crepe and black chiffon velvet jacket to receive her guests.

Mrs. A. Coleman wore an afternoon frock of black mariette when she entertained Mesdames C. Tonks, W. O. .Williams, W. M. Thomson, L. J. Bull, W. A. O’Callaghan, Brown, H. D.,>Hill, W. A. Duckworth and Misses Rawson and Watty at tea on Thursday afternoon. Miss Coleman, who assisted her mother, wore a crepe-de-chine frock with daffodil and black latticed checks on a white ground. There were bowls and ■vases of yellow bulbs, iris, violets, grape .hyacinths and primroses set about - the sitting room.

The bridge circle of the women’s club recently held a further teams match evening for the Adams Challenge Cup. The players were: President’s teani, Mesdames A. E. Stevens, H. D. Cameron, W. Gibson, H. G. Whitehead, Moorhouse, A. G. Bennett (Manaia), L. A. Ablett, P. O. Veale, A. Evans, Guthrie, and Misses Ingles and Theed; vice-president's team: Mesdames H. R. Kemp, R. Wylie, W. son, W. McL’Dowie, Dakin, H. W. Swjnburn, C. Bayley, Mac Diarmid (Manaia), and Misses Richardson and Wood. The Vice-president’s team won by five games to one.

Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Robb arranged and took a surprise party to Mrs. J. H. Sutton’s last week to honour her guest, Miss E. Holden, Sydney. Mrs. Sutton wore a gown 6f deep ivory suede de chine, with a black and ivory chenille embossed wrap. Miss Holden’s frock was fashioned in love-in-the-mist blue mariette, and she wore a short coat of white fur. Mrs. Robb chose a white chiffon organdie, with a mixed plaid effect of scarlet. Others present were Mr. and Mrs. Hi Jones and Misses G. Goodson and ■J. Powdrell. DEATH OF MRS. A. McBRIOE. FORMER TARANAKI RESIDENT.

The death occurred at her residence, Seddon Street, Levin, on September 3 of Mrs. Annie Mcßride after a brief illness. Mrs. Mcßride came to New Zealand in 1877 in the ship James Nicol Fleming, landing at Port Chalmers. She was married to Mr. John. Mcßride at Invercargill in 1879,-and took up residence at Wyndham. She -ft there in 1892, coming to the North Island, settling at Linton, where after twelve years’ residence the family, .removed to Kelvin Grove, Palmerston North. From there they came to Tarariaki arid farmed near Stratford until 1919, when they retired to Levin and have lived there ever since.. The late Mrs. Mcßride leaves a. husbana and six daughters, Mesdames A. Pritchard . (Ohingaiti), H. Bowling (Manukau), 'W. H. Harris (Pukengahu), H. iarron (Waikato), T. Eynon (Mbririnsville) and W. Wooderoofe .(Palmerston North).- Her only son died as the result of war injuries. There are 32 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchild-ren.
