PUNIHO SCHOOL AFFAIRS

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Puniho school committee was held on September 3. Present: Messrs. S. H. Cooke (chairman), C. Silver and W. Willan (secretary). The headmaster (Mr. E. C. Coleman) reported that the roll number was 47, there having been two admissions and one withdrawal. The average attendance for the month was 42. Now that the epidemic of measles had run its course a big improvement in attendance was expected. The construction of a shed for woodwork and beekeeping work had been commenced, it was reported. All the work was being done by the boys themselves. The committee decided to proceed with the concreting of the sheltershed. woodwork shed and part of the playing area. After considerable discussion the committee decided not to support the Education Institute's petition asking the Government to re-admit five-yeat-old pupils. Mr. J. H. Henry had paid his annual visit of inspection to the school that day, it was reported. Personal and General.

Mrs. S. S. Welks is an inmate of the New Plymouth hospital. Mr. L. Wells is spending a holiday at New Plymouth. Miss M. Bell is visiting Pungafehu as the guest of Mrs. S. Goddin. Mrs. Preaudeaux, New Plymouth, is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. Payne. On Friday teams from the Puniho school visited Okato to play basketball and football. Okato won both matches, the basketball by 7 goals to 6 and the football by 12 points to 11.
