VOGEL TOWN SCHOOL

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Vogeltown school committee was held last night. Mr. J. M. Thomson presided, others present being Messrs. F. Gadd, S. Smith, S. Harris and S. Miller. The headmaster’s report stated that the roll was 176. Nine children were withdrawn and 18 admitted at the term’s commencement. The average/attendance was 147.9 or 88.4 per cent, of the average roll. The poor attendance was due to a further outbreak of measles and influenza, 21 'children being absent owing to sickness. The school concert on August 16 was well attended and was a success generally. The school had been visited by Mr. D. McKay, supervisor of agriculture and handwork. The Association football team won the senior cup and retained the shield for the five-a-side tournament. Hedge trees were required to complete the enclosure of the school garden. Fresh arrangements suggested for the payment of water supplied by the borough were held over for consideration.
