MOST MODERN PLANT
FEATURES OF EQUIPMENT i BOILER LOCALLY CONSTRUCTED. MACHINERY OF SPECIAL INTEREST. Of the many interesting features of the new factory at Toko, the steam generating plant, designed and constructed entirely at Stratford by Union Foundries Ltd., is one of the most important. Its importance lies not so much in its relation to the working of the factory as in the fact of its construction locally. It is claimed of the boiler—l2ft. long and 4ft. 3ins. in diameter—that it is the only boiler to have been constructed entirely in Taranaki. The boiler, designed to produce 30 h.p., is of the latest design approved by the Marine Department. It is of the underfired multitubular type, and is specially designed for economical and efficient steaming. An electrically driven fan to deliver air for forced draught beneath the fire bars is neatly installed in a recess in the brickwork. An electrically driven feed pump is connected to the feed line and pumps hot water from a tank into which all condensed water drains. The brickwork, done by Mr. J. Hinton, Stratford, is of extra thickness to conserve heat, and is built in such a way as to allow easy removal of wedge pieces against the boiler to facilitate inspection. The attention of dairymen, however, may be more . particularly directed towards the machinery and equipment, for, in this department, the Directors have set a new standard with new machines hitherto untried in New Zealand. Toko will have the unique experience of being the first New Zealand cheese factory to aim at perfection in milk through the installation of the latest type Sinus Plate ’Regenerator, a device based on a new principle as far as the Dominion is concerned, but which has withstood the most searching tests in Denmark. . Further information dealing with the device will be found in a comprehensive advertisement on this page. Another interesting feature included in the factory plant is the new weighing machine, of which two are installed on the receiving stage. The huge dial carrying the weight indicator is three feet in diameter, so that any supplier at a glance can note the. weight of his milk. Of particular interest' to managers will be the latest designed . Sinus starter heater made of rustless steel and driven by an electric motor, the Sinus milk pump with its remarkable capacity and regular delivery, and the Sinus, quadrant cheese scales.
