LAST CORSICAN BRIGAND
SURRENDER TO THE POLICE, HIS DISTRICT UNDER TRIBUTE. London, Aug. 28. Francois Bornea, the last Corsican brigand at large, who has surrendered to police, is only 29 years of age. He. joined the French Navy when 18, states the Ajaccio correspondent of the Times. Subsequently, he became a gendarme and was appointed a dock policeman at Toulon in 1927. He was dismissed for misconduct a year latef, and opened a smithy in Corsica. Allying himself with brigands, he blackmailed a local carrier till he drove him out of business, and the course of time laid the whole district under tribute. In 1930 he shot a road-mender dead for not getting out of the way of his motor-car.
