WORLD’S SCULLING TITLE

PEARCE OBJECTS TO DELAY CONTENDER SUFFERS CHILL UPSET OF TRAINING SYSTEM POSTPONEMENT TROUBLE By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright Toronto, Aug. 30. Pearce (Australia), world sculling champion, was reported to-night to have objected to the postponement of the final race for the title with Miller (United States). Miller contracted a chill and asked that the race be postponed from to-morrow. Pearce, it was stated, requested that .the race take place. with Barry (England), who was defeated by Miller in the semi-final. The Australian declared that he had regulated his training so as to be at the peak of his form on Friday night. If the race were not forfeited by Miller someone else should compete., Pearce was Said to have packed up and left for Hamilton. Barry appeared at the Canadian National Exhibition sports headquarters, saying he had been notified by Pearce to make arrangements to act as substitute. The race officials said they could not consider such a proposition. Barry expressed displeasure, claiming that Pearce’s request inferred that everything had been arranged. Barry said he planned to catch the Empress of Britain and. sail home on Thursday night and had changed his plans to return to the exhibition.

Miller was showing Joe Wright a sculling trick and upset his shell. He suffered a chill as a result of immersion in the icy waters of Lake Ontario. A physician said Miller would not be able to meet Pearce for about a week. A later message, however, says Miller has resumed practice and the championship will be decided on the evening of September 5.
