Lydney, says the Western Daily Press and Bristol Mirror, is justly proud of the splendid work of Lord Bledisloe, Governor-General of New Zealand, whose ancestral home is at Lydney, and the Lydney Parish Council has decided that he should be given a warm welcome when he returns next year. The suggestin' of a, civic welcome was made by Mr. Yeatman (vice-chair-man), r.nd the council agreed to consider arrangements. Mr. F. H. Yeatman said that following his letter remarking on the splendid way in which the tenants of the recently-erected council houses at Lydney had. kept their gardens, he had received a reply from Lord Bledisloe offering a trophy for annual competition for the best council house garden. Lord Bledisloe further stated that he would be prepared to offer a second silver cup for gardens of houses other than council houses.
