KIDNAPPING STORY
AMERICAN EVANGELIST.
“ADVENTURES” A MYTH. New York, Aug. 23. After telling a story to the police of "terrible sufferings” at the hands of kidnappers, the Rev. R. Askew, North Carolina evangelist, admits that his "adventures” were a myth. Askew, Who is 28, reported that he had been released after three days of confinement near Goldsboro, North Carolina. . . For the purpose of adding conviction to his story he sent Mrs. Aimee Macpherson a threatening note, demanding that her Angelus Temple pay the £5OOO ransom which, he said, was demanded. Mrs. Macpherson showed the police certain flaws in the ransom note, and in Askew’s sensational tale.
