FARMERS’ UNION MEETING. At the monthly meeting of the Cardiff branch of the Farmers’ Union a good attendance was presided over by Mr. H. Marchant. It was arranged to hold the annual social and dance. The president extended to Mr. H. Nowell, winner of the North Taranaki championship for swede-growing, the congratulations of the branch, and in so doing remarked upon the fact that since the inception of the branch three years ago one championship had come to Cardiff each .year. A sum of £2 was voted to the Stratford Mayor’s relief fund. Basketball Match. ; The Tuna basketball team visited Cardiff to play the return match and won by a good margin, the scores being Tuna 11, Cardiff 2. Miss F. Harkness was referee. On Wednesday evening the hall committee staged another successful dance. There was a fairly large attendance.'Mr. and Mrs. Albertson .gave a demonstration of the “thistle waltz,” and afterwards, when this dance was announced, not a dancer was to be seen sitting out. A waltzing competition, judged by Mr. Albertson, was won by Mrs. Wilf Ord and partner. Music for the dance was supplied by Vinsen’s Ambassadors, and the masters of ceremonies were Messrs. Wickham, R. Huckstep and C. Hawkes. Extras were played by Messrs. R. Huckstep and R. Albertson. Personals. Mr. and Mrs. T. Richards have returned from a holiday spent in the Waikato. Mr. and Mrs. A. O’Sullivan have returned from a visit to Hamilton. Mr. Arthur Shannon has returned from Massey College. Mrs. Wentworth and Mr. Belcher, Waikato, were the guests of the Misses Belcher-
