RUGBY COMPETITIONS
THE FINAL MATCHES TO-DAY. The final series of . matches in the Taranaki senior Rugby shield competitions -will be played this afternoon, when the holders of the McMasters Shield for the first season under the all-provincial scheme of play should be - disclosed, though there is just a possibility that it will not. Greatest interest will be taken in the doings of Patea and Tukapa. Patea, which has a point advantage, has only to defeat United Old Boys to secure the championship honours. Patea has beep battling gamely for years, despite the handicap of long-distance travpiling- Patea should defeat United Old Boys. ’ Should Patea be defeated or draw the result will' give Tukapa the championship or necessitate a re-play. That is providing Tukapa defeats Kaponga at Kaponga. As the Kaponga team is always hard to beat on its own ground the result is by no metns certain. Checks to the two leading teams will bring Stratford and Okaiawa into the picture again, so that their matches against Eltham and Hawera respectively will be interesting. Inglewood is forfeiting to Empire Old Boys, while owing to the college match the Waimate-Old Boys match will not be played. To-day’s matches are:— Auckland Grammar v. New Plymouth High School, at Pukekura Park, 2.45 p.m. Eltham fourth grade v. New Plymouth B °y s ’ School (final), at Pukekura y Park, at 1.15 p.m. v-’ Patea v. United Old Boys, at Stratford.
