RICCARTON’S SECOND DAY

HURDLE RACE PROSPECTS

HOUNSLOW’S RETURN TO FORM.

VINTAGE SHOULD BE FANCIED.

(By

“Hurry On.”)

The National carnival at Riccarton will advance another stage to-day when the principal event will be the Grand National Hurdles. All the other events have filled well and form should work out fairly well. Proceedings open with 11.35. HUNT CUP.

Despite his poor schooling efforts Currajong ran a good race on Tuesday and, with the winner on that occasion out of the way, may do even better here. Taura Lad, who should improve on his first day’s showing, and Night Club may prove the best of the others.

12.15 WOOLSTON HANDICAP. Of £l5O. Seven furlongs.

It is quite probable that this race will be divided but two scratchings will avoid this. A great deal will depend upon the draw for positions but Top Rank, who has been first past the post in her last three starts, may be favourite. Synagogue, who should be unproved by his first day’s outing, and Hunting Jay, who is a class above hacks, may also be prominent.

1.0. BEAUFORT STEEPLECHASE. Of £350. About two miles and a half.

Valpeen and . Billy Boy, the winner and third in the National, are sure to be in the market here, but Thurina will be suited by the distance. Peterette and Callamart are possibilities but the favourites are likely to be Thurina and Vaipeen. 1.45; ISLINGTON HANDICAP. Of £2OO. One mile and a quarter.

This distance troubled Davolo at Trentham, and Vintage, who should be improved by his recent racing, may account for him at the weights. Limbohm was unlucky in the Winter Cup and. has given indications that he will stay on. Prince Vai and Tiger Gain are a pair, and Giggleswick, Red Sun and Mercian Prince are not without prospects. The best supported may be Vintage, Limbohm and Prince Vai.

2.25 GRAND NATIONAL HURDLES. Of £6OO. Two miles and a half.

Hounslow’s fine win in the Jumpers’ Flat on Tuesday has drawn attention to his prospects here. He won this race last year and will command a big following to-day. Rasouli won in great style at Trentham and is reported to have gone the right way in the interval. Royal Lineage and Invictus ran well enough on Tuesday to give them prospects. has been improving steadily, and Huntique’s showing in the Jumpers Flat was good. Arcade failed badly on Tuesday but this can be disregarded. The issue is open but Hounslow, Rasouli and Roya! Lineage should be handy at the finish.

3.10 SPREYDON HURDLE RACE. Of £2OO. One mile and three-quarters.

Sunward 9 , Tuesday’s form points to Emotion and Brigadore again running Prominently. Revision, Sunward and Starshooter ar likely improvers. Those to_find fav should include Brigadore, Emotion and Revision.

3,50 SUMMER HANDICAP. Of £2OO. Nine furlongs.

Horowhenua and Nightform both raced prominently at the hunt gathering on August 4th and will have f6Uo Y u ?2’ Calydon stays «> tack wo* tas been good. Palmary, Importance and SlUld.r an, mtBM to respect wh.lo Scratchmere Scar on the minimum is sure to go well. The best backed may be Horowhenua, Nightform and Scratchmere SCaf ‘ 4.35.
