CENTENARIAN TAKES FLIGHT

MISS JEAN BATTEN PILOT.

UNIQUE EVENT AT HASTINGS.

By Telegrr-ph—Press Association. Hastings, Last Night. An event unique in the history of Aviation in New Zealand took place this afternoon, when Mrs. Mary Ann Adamson, who will be 101 years of age in November, went for a flight with Miss Jean Batten from the Hastings aerodrome. This was- Mrs. Adamson's third flight. She made her first flight in her 100th. year with Flight-Lieutenant Gerrand, instructor to the Hawke's Bay Aero Club, and her second with Sir Charles Kingsford Smith in the Southern Cross. Piquancy was given the incident by the fact that pilot and passenger respectively were the youngest and oldest life members of any one aero club. Miss Batten was appointed to life membership on her arrival here on Friday, and Mrs. Adamson some time ago. Miss Batten visited the war memorial hospital this morning and will leave tomorrow for Gisborne.
