OPUNAKE SURF CLUB BALL.
Many visitors were present at the Opunake Life-saving Club’s annual ball on Wednesday, some coming from as far as Hawera and Eltham. Among those present were Mesdames C. 0. Edmonds (black lace), E. COMING-OF-AGE PARTY. Miss Sheila Seaver was the guest of honour at a coming-of-age party at the resident of Messrs. Scanlon, Tawhiti, on Thursday. Dancing, items and games contributed largely to the evening’s entertainment. Musical items were given by Misses A. Whyte and M. 'Seaver, Master D. Myers and Messrs. T. Divane and Hackett. Dance music was supplied by Messrs. Hackett, E. Radford and P. Cadogon. Mrs. Seaver, who received the guests, wore a maroon ensemble, and the guest of honour chose a black velvet frock with white trimmings. The supper room was artistically decorated with pink and blue streamers and bowls of spring flowers and berries. Mr. D. Myers proposed the chief toast and Mr. D. Scanlon replied. Miss Seaver received many gifts, including a gold key which was autographed by the seventy guests present. Among those present were Mesd-mes Dymond, Hackett, Leen, Myers and Sheehan, Misses M. Bartlett, M. and N. Harrington, E. McCabe, K. Sheehan, D. Chadwick, E. Peterson, P. and M. Cruickshanks, M. Dymond, M. Vincent, E. Harding, T. Dyson, J. and S. O’Brien, E. O’Connor, A. Whyte, L. Hitchcock, N. Kent, K. Donald and Dwyers. MATAU COMING-OF-AGE PARTY. An enjoyable function was held recently at the Matau hall, when Mr. and Mrs. G. Rawlinson entertained a large number of guests on the occasion of the coming-of-age cf their daughter, Doreen. Mrs. Rawlinson received her guests wearing a becoming frock »of brown and fawn afgalaine. Miss Doreen Rawlinson wore white and blue floral taffetas with a coatee of blue silk velvet with shoes to match. Tire evening was spent in dancing to music by the Valencia Dance Band. Songs were sung by Mrs. Crabbe and Mr. Hall, Stratford, and humorous recitations given by Miss Longstaff, Stratford, Rev. Mr. Fussell, Whangkmomona, and Mr. E. Hasler, Kiore. The accompaniste was Miss Smaill. Extras were played by Miss Marsh, Stratford, and Messrs. W. Rawlipson and J. Moody. Mr. N. Rawlinson was master of ceremonies. After supper the huge birthday cake made by Mrs. A. Rolfe and iced and decorated by Mrs. P. Rolfe, was cut Mr. W. Rawlinson proposed the health of the guest of honour. Mr. G. Rawlinson replied. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr. and Mrs. W. Rawlinson. Bring and Buy at Hawera. A successful afternoon was organised by Mrs. A. E. Wills -nd Miss Symes with the assistance of a committee, and held in St. Mary’s Hall on Thursday in the form of a bring and buy. A good sum was raised to aid the Rev. T. Feilden Taylor’s City Mission. An entertaining programme, which kept the party lively, was arranged by Mrs. J. C. Robb and contributed to by Misses Chadwick and Purson, instrumental duo; Mrs. J. A. Duffill and Miss Jean Dempsey, songs; and Miss Betty Nicholas, elocutionary item.
