EDUCATION LAND LEASES

PROVISION FOR EXTENSION. AMENDMENT OF LEGISLATION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Provision for the extension of lease terms in respect to certain education reserves is contained in the Education Reserves Amendment Bill, which was introduced in the House to-day and read a first time. The Bill, which extends the application of section 2 of the Education Reserves Amendment Act, 1931, was explained by the Hon. E. A. Ransom. Tme section of the 1931 Act made temporary provision for extension, with the approval of the Minister of Education, of the term for a period not exceeding five years of the lease of a high school reserve or other education reserve, or any endowment of the University of New Zealand which was due to expire at any time not later than December 31 this year. Having regard to the present unsettled conditions affecting a number of these properties it had been considered expedient to extend this date to December 31, 1936, to enable extensions of leases due to expire before that date to be granted where such a course was equitable.
