TRIBUTES TO ROYAL FAMILY
FAREWELL TO PRINCE HENRY. MR. STANLEY BRUCE’S DINNER. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 8.15 p.m. London, July 25. The ribbons and medals of many of the best known public men in Parliamentary, military and naval spheres made a brilliant scene at Mr. Stanley Bruce’s dinner at the Savoy in honour of the Duke of Gloucester. Mr. Bruce expressed the company’s best wishes for the Duke’s mission, which was another instance of the service the Royal Family was prepared to render the British people. Mr. Bruce wondered if the Duke realised how great was the burden of responsibility that his family carried. The day that the monarchy went the British Empire would fall apart. The Duke, replying, said it most fitting to make such anniversaries as the centenary the occasion for celebrating the memory of the pioneers of the Empire to whom primarily was due the honour and credit for the Empire’s extent. He expressed sympathy with the Australian cricketers because they were deprived of a win at Leeds by the weather. He added that all hoped the luck would change and that in the last and deciding test no outrageous piece of fortune would prevent the better side from holding the Ahses.
