COMPANY’S ANNUAL MEETING. YEAR'S WORKING REVIEWED. The annual meeting of the Opua Road Co-operative Dairy Company was held at Opunake yesterday. Mr. Geof. Feaver presided. A motion of condolence with the chairman and the Messrs. Feaver in their bereavement was carried. The London produce markets, although very depressed, had been more stable than for the past few seasons, the report stated. Towards the end of the season the directors were able to dispose of all unsold cheese at a very .satisfactory price. Payments to suppliers were made during the season as follows: August-Sep-tember, 9d; October-December, 8d; January, 6’/ad; February, March and April, 7d; May, 8d; June 9d. A further payment would be made at the annual meeting to bring the average for the season to 9’/ad, plus interest on shares. Statistics for the past three seasons were given as follows:—l93l,-32, lbs milk, 2,868,280; lbs butter-fat, 116,763.2; lbs cheese 304,326; average test, 4.070; 1932-33, lbs milk, 2,886,670; lbs butter-fat, 122,230.1; lbs cheese, 311,258; average test, 4.234; 1933-34, lbs milk, 3,958,790; lbs butter-fat, 169,829.2; lbs cheese, 429,235; average test, 4.289. During the season 72,1601 b of milk were separated, producing 3640.21 b of butterfat, and this together with whey cream was forwarded to Pihama to be manufactured. The chairman reviewed the year’s working and stated that plant and machinery had cost £ll5 18s 6d, including the new press, agitator and curd testing machine. On the shares in the Taranaki Freezing Company, Ltd., only two more payments were due. Cheese on hand comprised 213 crates at the works and four crates in the factory, which were taken into stock at sl£d. All trading charges were considerably more than last year. This was due to the big increase in supply and output of cheese, which amounts to 47,5991 b of but-ter-fat and 117,9791 b of cheese. On a butter-fat basis export charges were ,504 d against ,515 d last season, manufacturing charges were 1.825 d against 2.147 d and overhead costs were .191 d against ,244 d making the total costs 2.52 d, against 2.9 d last year, or a saving of .38d per lb of butter-fat. Suppliers had been delivering good quality milk, only 3691 b of butter-fat was second grade. The curing room was enlarged at a cost of £l4O. The dairy instructor had been of material assistance for the small outlay of £3 2s sd. Very favourable reports on the company’s produce had been received, both from the Dairy Division and from the agents. The chairman thanked the secretary and staff for their work during a trying year. On a ballot the following directors were appointed for the year: Messrs. G. Feaver. S. R. Feaver, T. H. H. Sinclair, G. Gifkins and W. Roach. A vote of thanks to the outgoing director was unanimously carried. Mr. H. J. Newman was reappointed auditor. The usual honorarium was voted the chairman, and a bonus of £5 was voted to the manager. A vote of thanks was accorded the secretary and the directors. Mr. G. Feaver was reappointed chairman. Some discussion took place on Mr. J. Feaver’s motion that it be a recommendation to the incoming directors to consider the method of payment on the casein content. The motion was lost.
