WATER CHARGE TO SCHOOLS
DEPUTATION TO MEET COUNCIL. FREE SUPPLY AT AUCKLAND. The water supply to Catholic and State primary schools in the Auckland City Council is free and last week the Northcote Borough Council decided to place the Catholic primary school at Northcote on the same footing as the State primary school, Mr. J. D. Nott, chairman of the Fitzroy school committee, said at last night’s committee meeting when he urged that a drastic reduction should be pressed for on the charge of £l3 10s made by the New Plymouth Borough Council for water supply to the Fitzroy school. The charge had been increased from £7 to £l3 10s, said Mr. Nott. The New Plymouth council should meet the schools.
They were catering for 50 fpwer children than two years ago, but the account was almost double, said the headmaster (Mr. G. A. Lyall). The contention raised that because there was now double the lavatory accommodation twice as much water would be’ used was fallacious. On Mr. R. J. Klbby’s motion it was decided that a deputation consisting of Messrs Nott, A. W. H. Nixon and E. Armitage wait on the council.
