TOKAORA DISTRICT NEWS.

W.D.F.U. BIRTHDAY CONCERT. An enjoyable function was held in the Tokaora hall on Monday, the occasion being the second birthday of the Tokaora branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. About 100 were present, including many visitors from branches in South Taranaki. Mrs. Bishop, Levin, was also present. A programme of musical and vocal items was arranged by Mrs. H. E. Johnson. The following took part: Pianoforte solos, Miss A. Bells; songs, Mr. W. G. Simpson and Mesdames Allwright and McCarty; elocutionary items, Miss S. Johnson; guitar solo, Mr. Looden; playreading, Mesdames Fyson and Velvin, Messrs. Simpson and Allwright; vocal duet, Mr. and Mrs. Allwright; Maori items, the Jones party. Accompaniments were played by Miss Betts, Mrs. Fyson and Mrs, Coleman. Music for dancing was supplied by Mesdames Betts and F. Stewart.

The supper room was decorated and a sit-down supper was served. The birthday cake was the gift of a former member of the branch, Mrs. A. J. Haseltine, and was decorated by Mrs. H. E.’ Johnson.

The president (Mrs. H. Peacock) called upon Mrs. E. J. Betts to cut the cake. Nurse Merrie, Manaia, Mrs. Good, Okaiawa, and Mrs. Nicholls, Hawera, wished the Tokaora branch a successful future. Mr. H. J. Finlay, spoke on behalf of the Farmers’ Union branch.

Personal Items. Messrs. P. Wakelin and D. Burrell have returned after four months in the South Island. Miss Alice Bennett has returned from New Plymouth, where she was staying with her sister, Mrs. Simmons. Miss Simpson is the guest of Miss Mary Wakelin.

Mrs. F. Cleaver and family are staying with relations in the Eltham district.

Miss Nola Franklin, Manaia, has returned home after spending a holiday with Mrs. J. Joyce.
