PORT OF NEW PLYMOUTH
TOTAL REVENUE INCREASES.
RECEIPTS FROM SHIPPING LESS. Comparative trade returns submitted for examination by the New Plymouth Harbour Board at its meeting yesterday showed that in the nine months ended July, 1934, the total revenue had increased by over £2OOO when compared with the statistics of the previous year, largely as a result of harbour rates and penalties. Despite this port trade and port revenue had fallen off slightly in many departments. Both gross and nett tonnage accommodated had decreased, also imports by over 10,000 tons. Exports showed a slight increase, as did the tonnage of inter-colonial and coastal vessels accommodated, but a falling off of oversea cargoes, particularly in slag, was recorded. As against this, direct shipments showed a decided increase in all lines with the exception of cheese, shipments of which decreased by approximately 2000 tons. ' Meat, butter, wool, tallow and hides increased. Phosphate manures were the only import lines showing an increase, and this was only slight. A statement of revenue gave the fol-
