ATHLETICS AT WAITARA

ANNUAL MEETING OF CLUB.

BASKETBALL SHIELD TOURNEY.

The annual meeting of the Waitara Cycle, Athletic and Axemen’s Club was held on Thursday. The president, Mr. L. G. Andrews, presided over a fair attendance.

The balance-sheet for the year showed the receipts, including £5610s lOd brought forward, to be £369 16s 7d, and the expenditure £331 Is sd, leaving a credit balance of £3B 15s 2d. The balance-sheet and report, previously published, were adopted. The election of officers resulted: Patron, Mr. L. W. Birdling; president, Mr. L. G. Andrews; vice-presidents, Messrs. T. ,d'. Fowler and F. Loveridge; committee, Messrs. I. M. Antunovic, T. Taylor, E. Spurdie, E. Beckbessinger, L. Old, A. Hawkins, R. Yardley, T. Fowler, E. W. Proctor, E. Andrews, A. Lash and L. G. Andrews, with power to add; delegates, Messrs. T. D. Fowler and G. Bird; executive, Messrs. L. J. Rattenbury, A. Lash, T. Fowler, E. Spurdie, with secretary and chairman of committee; auditor, Mr. L. H. Sampson; club handicapper, Mr. T. Fowler; starter, Mr. E. Spurdie; secretary and treasurer, Mr. G. Bird.

Mr. G. Bird was voted the sum of £lO 10s as a honorarium and Mr. A. Hawkins £2 2s.

It was decided that an old-time annual dance be held in. August.

The holding of a basketball tournament was discussed and it was decided to hold a tournament for the shield on a Thursday during the term holidays in August. The president reported that it was the intention of the committee to tender a social evening to the ladies who has been the means of considerably assisting the funds of the club. It was left to the chairman to arrange the evening. It was decided to write to Mr. S. D. George thanking him for the valuable services that he had rendered the club during his residence at Waitara,
