Mowat and family, who are leaving the district to take up farming in the Blenheim district. Mr. Mowat, who for the past 18 years has been manager of Mangatoi station on the Mokau River, is very well-known in the district. A large number of friends and residents were present. In presenting Mr. Mowat and family with a filled purse, Mr. W. J. McKeown, Mokau River, expressed regret that the Mowat family were leaving the district, and wished them every success in their new home. Mr. Mowat suitably replied. Dancing was indulged in to music supplied by Mrs. J. Beattie and Mr. L. Bryant, extras being played by Miss B. Sampson and Mr. H. Kendrick. Messrs. M. Pratt and C. Rogers were masters of ceremonies. Several novelty dances were held, the prizes going to Mrs. F. Widt and Mr. J. Scott, balloon dance; Miss J. Mowat and Mr. J. Christofell, Monte Carlo; Miss H. Cartwright and Mr. P. Randall, lucky spot. The final function to assist the Mokau candidate in the queen carnival was held in the Mokau hall on Saturday evening.
