INGLEWOOD SOCIETY MEETING.
There was a good attendance of those interested in the work of the British and Foreign Bible Society when a meeting arranged by Mrs. R. Dansie president, and Mrs. F. Longbottom, secretary of the Inglewood branch, was held in the Presbyterian hall to hear the Rev. David Calder, organising secretary for the Dominion, speak on behalf of the society. Opportunity was also taken by all the collectors to hand in their boxes to the treasurer, Mrs. M. Sutherland. The Rev. R. S. Keenan was in the chair. The meeting opened with "he smging of a hymn, followed by Scripture reading by Mr. Reeve and prayer by the Rev. Boyd-Bell. Mrs. Dansie extended a welcome, many being present from the country districts. She then introduced the Rev. Calder, who gave his listeners many interesting details of the work, saying that it was 130 years since the start of the society, when the Bihie was translated into 70 languages. The fact that at the present time it was being translated into 678 different tongues showed how widespread was the work. Mrs. Dansie announced that this year’s collection amounted to £l7 Ils, this being an increase on the collection of last year. Mr. Calder thanked the branch for its successful efforts. Vocal items given by Mrs. McKeen and Mrs. Fussell junr., Waiongona, were well received. Afternoon tea gave a pleasant social touch to the afternoon, and a cheery open fire also added its share of comfort. Captain Lord, of the Salvation Army, closed the meeting with a prayer.
