SOMERSET AT WICKETS
ONE DOWN FOR 41 RUNS FINE WEATHER AFTER RAIN PONSFORD AGAIN IN TEAM By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright Rec. 1.20 a.m. London, June 27. Somerset won the toss and decided to bat in the match against the Australian team to-day. At the luncheon adjournment the county had made 41 runs for one wicket. The weather was fine following rain and the wicket had been -covered. The start was delayed. The teams are:— Australia: Woodfull (capt.), Ponsford, Chipperfield, Bradman, Darling, Kippax, Barnett, Bromley, Ebeling, O’Reilly, Fleetwood-Smith, Somerset: W. W. Lee, F. S. Lee, Bennett, J. H. Cameron, Case, Ingle (capt.), Eurrough, Wellard, White, P. J.' Davey, Luckes. The details are:— ■■ SOMERSET. First Innings. Lee (Jack), b Ebeling 20 Lee (Frank), not out 18 Bennett, not out .. 3 Total (for one wicket) 41 WICKET NOT REALLY SO BAD ENGLAND’S CHANCE BRIGHT. Wyatt in an interview declared that England’s chance of retaining the ashes was excellent. The wicket was not nearly as bad as the result indicated, he said.
The umpires for the third test will be Messrs. Hardstaff and Walden.
