FARMERS 9 PARLIAMENT

DAIRY ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE INDUSTRY’S PROBLEMS DISCUSSED PRESIDENT REVIEWS POSITION THE fortieth annual National Dairy Conference was opened in St. Mary’s Hall, New Plymouth, yesterday afternoon, and will continue to-day and to-morrow. The programme is a full one, comprising addresses on various important matters affecting the industry and the discussion of several remits. Good progress was made yesterday afternoon, when delegates were given a civic welcome by the Mayor of New Plymouth, the president delivered his address, a paper was read by Mr. W. Cunningham on employers’ liability for accident, and a remit on cheese grading was dealt with. Mr. Arthur Morton, president, presided over an attendance of about 400. Among others present were Messrs. W. M. Singleton, Director of the Dairy Division, and Smith, president of the South Island Dairy Association. Communications were received from Messrs. C. H. Backhouse, secretary of the N.D.A., and the Hon. W. Downie Stewart, and there were a number of apologies .for absence.
