FILM USED FOR TRAINING
INSTRUCTION FOR VOLUNTEERS. Members of the New Plymouth platoons of the support (machine-gunners) company of the Ist Battalion of the Taranaki Regiment received a new form of training last night, when part of a series of special training films were displayed for the instruction of all ranks. In the first film a Vickers machinegun section was shown occupying and evacuating a direct fire position under war conditions, while in the second a wiring party was seen in action from the time the stores left the limbers until the entanglements were completed and hostile fire commenced. Another striking film gave a graphic insight into the mechanism of a Lewis gun, showing exactly what took place in the gun from the firing of one bullet until the next. The last of the group showed the final stages of consolidating a defensive position, showing how wire entanglements and other defensive measures could be brought into successful operation. A commentary was made throughout the display by Captain F. L. Hunt, N.Z.S.C., while Mr. L. M, Moss was the operator. -
