MANUTAHI CROP JUDGING

SCHOOL CHILDREN’S MANGOLDS.

Mr. J. B. Hogg, agriculture/instructor, judged the root-growing competition at the Manutahi school under the Boys’ and Girls’ Club movement on Thursday. The quality of the soil of half of the plots was very poor and some children suffered thereby, the difference in weights not being commensurate with the effort put in. The boy with the lightest crop secured full marks for cultivation. Both the first two crops had extra farmyard manure added. Mr. Hogg expressed his pleasure at tfie condition in which the plots were presented and advised those children who had struck poor soil not to be discouraged. The root competition will be completed next week, when the Records kept by the children will be sent in for judging. Results are:—

Average yield 51 tons to the acre; average cultivation marks 39. JUDGING AT WAITOTARA MANGOLD AND CARROT POINTS. The judging of the root crop competition at the Waitotara school took place recently.
