CROWDS FOLLOW AVIATRIX MISS BATTEN ENTERTAINED INSPECTION OF HER PLANE DEPARTURE FOR DOMINION By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. •Rec. 10 p.m. Sydney, June 1. Twenty women’s organisations united to entertain Miss Jean Batten, the New Zealand airwoman, to-day. Police again were compelled to control the crowds wherever she went. Miss Batten was also the guest of a group of prominent business men and their womenfolk at the Hotel Australia. She even found time for a hurried visit to the Mascot aerodrome, where she inspected her machine, which she regards with affection. The engine was completely stripped, and Miss Batten decided to have three new cylinder heads installed. Mr. R., M. Racket, .editor of the New Zealand Herald, who is holidaying at Sydney, to-day chatted with Miss Batten, who is deeply grateful for the scores of messages and congratulations she is receiving from New Zealand. She was especially pleased to receive Lord Bledisloe’s and Mr. Forbes’ messages. Miss Batten expects,® when her mother reaches Sydney, to leave on her visit to New Zealand. GUEST AT GOVERNMENT HOUSE. LORD BLEDISLOE’S INVITATION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, June 1. The Governor-General has sent the following message to Miss Jean Batten: ‘‘Lady Bledisloe and I will be pleased if you will be our guest at Government House on your return to your native land.”
