INSANITY VERDICT APPLAUDED. MURDER CHARGE AGAINST FATHER By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Perth, May 1. There was an unprecedented scene in the criminal court when the jury returned a verdict of not guilty on the ground of unsoundness of mind in a case in which Lawrence Mellor was charged with having murdered his on. When the foreman delivered the verdict a score of women jumped to their feet, clapping and cheering. The Chief Justice, Sir John Northmore, was unable to make himself heard. He ordered the gallery to be cleared, and when this was done, after a prolonged uproar, Mellor was ordered to be detained during the Governor’s pleasure.
