CHARGES AGAINST MAORIS. LAND DEVELOPMENT MUDDLE. . By Telegraph—Press Association. Gisborne, May 31. After a hearing lasting for more than two days, .and on the completion of the evidence of the two accused, Mr. Justice Blair directed the jury to return a verdict of not guilty in the cases in which two Maoris, Rangi Royal and Edward Biddle, were charged with falsifying wages sheets connected with the Ruatoki land development scheme. His Honour held that the defence had given a complete answer to the allegations. The jury added a rider stating that the irregularity which had occurred could have been satisfactorily straightened out by the Audit Department and the department in charge of the work .without Royal and Biddle being put to the worry and expense of being brought before the Court.
