Miss Alison Smith will leave on Monday for Christchurch, where she will commence her training as a nurse at the public hospital. Mrs. J. O’Meara, who has been spending an extended holiday with her mother, Mrs. J. Fleming, left on Tuesday for Wanganui, where she will spend a week before proceeding to her home at Wellington. Mrs. W. Sharp was hostess at two tables of bridge on Thursday evening. Mrs. J. Fleming, Cape Road, Pungarehu, was hostess at four tables of bridge, in honour of her daughter, Mrs. J. O’Meara, Wellington. Mrs. Fleming received the guests in a gown of black crushed velvet. Mrs. O’Meara wore navy crepe satin. Mrs. T. ,N. Watt and Mr. C. O. Edmonds were the prizewinners. Present were Mesdames T. N. Watt, C. O. Edmonds, C. H. Marcroft (Opunake), D. Morgan (New Plymouth) and Miss E. Fleming. A gift evening organised by members of the Presbyterian Church, was tendered to Miss D. Clouston at the residence of Mrs. T. N. Watt on Monday night. In asking the guest of honour to accept a large basket of gifts, Mrs. Watt, referred to the help Miss Clouston had always given the church, and the asteem and affection in which she was held. She wished her long life and happiness. Mr. J. Morris responded on behalf of Miss Clouston. There were musical items, games and competitions.
