GIFTS TO MISS MAVIS WILLIAMS.
Miss Mavis Williams received many useful gifts at a “kitchen” social held in her honour at the Eltham Oddfellows’ Hall this week. Over 120 friends were present. Mrs. J. Cocker was hostess. Mr. E. Butler conveyed the good wishes of the gathering to Miss Williams and said the presence of such a number was testimony of her popularity and that of her fiance, Mr. Eric Old, Pukengahu. He thanked Mrs. Cocker for arranging the pleasant function. Mr. Old returned thanks for the many useful gifts and Mrs. Cocker spoke of the high esteem in which the young couple were held. Elocutionary items were given oy Miss Vera Davis and Mr. E. Butler. Miss Margaret Lawrence contributed tap dances.
Dance music was played by Mrs. A. J. Prestidge, Mrs. Paton, Misses Old, Prince, E. Cocker, and S. Williams and Mr. N. Hatcher.
Monte Carlos were won by Mr. H. Carter and Miss Brown, and Mr. L. Jenkins and Mrs. A. J. Prestidge, A spot waltz was won by Mr. Treweek and Mrs. D. May. A missing word competition was won by Miss D. Williams.
