RUSSIA IS BUYING WHEAT

ADMISSION OF CROP FAILURES. RISE IN THE PRICE OF BREAD. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, May 29. The Daily Telegraph says that a Soviet organisation in London is buying Australian and Argentine wheat for shipment to Vladivostock (Siberia). Two Australian and one Argentine cargoes, totalling 22,500 tons, have already been bought and ships are .chartered for them. Further buying is expected. Russia’s sudden appearance as a buyer is believed to be due to widespread crop failures. Also the probable wheat consumption in the Vladivostock area will be abnormally increased owing to' the maintenance of troops there because of Russo-Japanese tension. Wheat cargo sellers raised their limits 8d and parcels are a shilling to 18d dearer. Plates are sixpence up. The Daily Telegraph’s Moscow correspondent says that a decree announcing a general rise in the price of bread admits for the first time that a severe drought spoilt part of the southern grain bell.
