MR. C.B. LEPPER’S OFFERING

’ HIGH PRODUCTION THROUGHOUT. Mr. C. B. Lepper is carrying on the well known Lepperton stud with the prefix “Maori” on the same lines that his late father followed ever since its foundation 35 or 36 years ago. During the last few years the whole herd has been under Group herd test and last year under herd conditions, fed entirely on grass, the average for the 98 cows was 3591 b of fat, the best cow averaging 555 lb fat. This year the herd of 102 cows will average over 3601 b fat. Elf’s Beauty 800.75 and others have shown what the stud is capable of doing in the way of records and show performances. Last year two heifers from the stud were shown, securing first prize in the yearlings and first in the pairs, while last year three entries secured second in yearling heifers out of a clasa of 30, as well as first in the yearling pairs and second in the calf pairs. One of these heifers, Maori Precious Maid, was second in the class of 30 yearlings. She is by the imported Brampton Standard Prince, who has already made his mark in the Taranaki show ring and whose first daughter is producing well. Her dam, Maori Precious, has two strains of Hardshot and also goes back to Lilium’s Mab. Another heifer, Maori Clematis, also by the important Brampton Standard Dance, has been entered. Her dam, Maori Wisteria, is by Hard Shot out of a Petunis Noble cow whose dam was by Dr. Jim. The heifers are in calf to a son of Maori Dolores.

The cow catalogued Maori Chloe unfortunately came in with a weak quarter, though she went out sound. She has been withdrawn and Maori Dolores, by Maori Goblin, a son of the champion Elf’s Beauty 800.751 b fat has been substituted. She is out of Maori Tuneful, one of the best bred matrons in the herd, being by Maori St. Patrick, a Meadowvale Gold King bull. She is in calf to the imported Brampton Standard Dance.
