Led by Jagira, a notorious desperado, 27 men serving sentences as armed brigands, daringly escaped from the Faridkot State prison yesterday. Jagira was conversing with a sikh sentry at the prison gate when he suddenly seized the sentry’s long beard through the bars and pulled him to the ground while others snatched his keys and rifle and shot him dead. They then shot dead a prison arsenal sentry, looted 19 rifles and thousands of rounds of ammunition and fled into the jungle pursued by large forces of police.
