CENTRAL SCHOOL JUBILEE

SUCCESS OF OLD PUPILS’ SOCIAL. GATHERING AT NEW PLYMOUTH. An informal social evening in connection. with the Central school jubilee week at New Plymouth was splendidly supported last night, when over 600 old pupils and friends of the school assembled in- the Agricultural Hall. A concert programme, dancing, cards and reminiscences made an enjoyable entertainment. The Mayor of New Plymouth, Mr. E. R. C. Gilmour, presided. Old pupils representing every decade were present, the ages varying from eight to 80.

The following concert items were presented: Ballet, Miss E. Riley and pupils; songs, Mrs. Ferrick; whistling solo, Miss Edna Rothery songs, Madame Wells (Auckland); toe dance, Miss Meryl Julian; contralto solos, Mrs. Sunderland; vocal duets and solos, Messr.-;. A. Howlett and A. Wright; songs, Mr. L. Kerr. Supper was served in two relays, the following committee being responsible: Mesdames W. H. Huggett, W. Hunter, J, Milroy, A. Feakins, J. Clarke, Prestney, G. Cathey, J. Bell, Dunn, C. D. Grant, E. W. Hodder, F. C. Potter, A. Morey, S. Bennett, A. W. Holder, H. Jordan, C. Bond, E. Hall, M. Julian .nd Throssell. Table decorations were arranged by Mesdames D. P. Evans, J. O. Turner and Bridget. Music for dancing was provided by a jubilee orchestra comprising Mrs. Davies, Messrs. D. George, L. Blanchard, H. McNeill and B. Moverley. Messrs. E. R. C. Gilmour, W. H. Hugget, S. G. Smith and N. Way were masters of ceremonies. TO-DAY’S ACTIVITIES. This afternoon visiting, old boys will be taken to the New Plymouth hospital, where they will visit Miss B. Henderson, Miss Bradbury, Mrs. Jury, Mrs. Anderson, Mr. J. Smith, Mr. C. Jordan and others, all of whom have been connected with the school as teachers or pupils. Messrs. H. Dempsey and J. Hislop will accompany the party. An “at home” afternoon will be arranged by New Plymouth old girls at the Agricultural Hall forpthe entertainment of visiting old girls. The afternoon will be spent informal, a musical programme and afternoon tea being provided.
