CROWD AT OMATA HALL

SUCCESSFUL OPENING DANCE. The Omata hall committee’s winter dance season opened in an auspicious manner last night, when nearly 200 persons attended the first carnival dance. Those present included many visitors from New Plymouth and down the coast, and the big hall was crowded. The dance was the first of a series, the next to take place in a month’s time. The fine programme of old-time and modem dances was warmly appreciated, and Boulton’s orchestra was in good form. Pupils of Miss Elwyn Riley gave two attractive dances. The masters of ceremonies were Messrs. W. Sanger, E. Luxton and J. Bayly. A great deal of the success of the dance was due to the efforts of the ladies who had charge of the supper arrangements. The competition for the cake donated by Mr. A. F. Aldie was won by Mr. Hart, New Plymouth. The committee comprised Messrs. B. Kurth (chairman), G. Beck (hon. secretary and treasurer), E. Luxton, J. Bayly, L. Comey, E. James and W. Sanger.
