OPUNAKE COURT LIST
ONE CIVIL JUDGMENT GIVEN. The civil list at the monthly sitting of the Opunake Court yesterday was a fairly long one but with rejournments, judgments by consent etc., it was quickly dealt with. Judgment was given by default in only one case, that of E. A. Poole v. Mrs. J. Minhinnick (Parikawhia) for £ll 9s 7d, with costs £3 15s 6d. In a judgment summons case the judgment debtor, an old age pensioner, was examined, the magistrate then declining to make an order. A Kina Road farmer, William Joseph Gilmer, appeared before Mr. W. H. Woodward, S.M., charged on the information of Mr. Geo. Pascoe, with failing to send two of his children to school. He pleaded not guilty, explaining that the children had not been sent to school on account of sickness. After hearing the evidence of Mr. Pascoe, which was to the effect that the boy had been kept home to help his father on occasions and the girl to help mind the baby, the magistrate stressed the importance of the children being sent to school regularly and adjourned the cases for two months to see if an improvement was effected.
