UGANDA LEADS INCREASE. APPEAL MADE TO SPINNERS. (British Official Wireless.) Rec. 5.5 p.m. Rugby, May 10. Lord Derby, at the annual meeting of the British Cotton Growing Association, referring to the production increase within the Empire during the year, said the honours went to Uganda, which produced nearly 3,000,000 bales of cotton. This was a record for that protectorate—an increase of 90,000 bales ’over the previous year. Lord Derby appealed to the Lancashire spinners, who spun low counts, • and manufacturers and shippers of cloth to give preference to Indian cotton.
