Patrician Engagement.
The engagement is announced of Lady Janet Montgomerie to Lord Robert Crichton-Stuart. Lady Janet- is the great-grandaughter of the 13th Earl of ' Eglinton, who many years ago staged a magnificent tournament on mediaeval lines at his stately home, Eglinton Castle. Lord Robert Crichton-Stuart is the second son of the Marquis of Bute, to whom belongs Cardiff Castle besides vast estates in Scotland and another in Spain, near Gibraltar. His mother, when she was 50, swam the Kyles of Bute, which suggests that feminine athletic-' ism is not of quite such recent date as some people imagine. Lord Robert is in the Scots Guards, and has the reputation of being not only a keen soldier but also a very gifted raconteur. The latter is an accomplishment, by the way, that seems to be assiduously cultivated by post-war young people.
