MATAU NEWS
GENERAL AND PERSONAL ITEMS. The annual meeting of the Matau hall committee was held on May 5. The secretary, Mr. W. McCoard, announced the resignation of Mr. H. Larsen as chairman of the hall society on grounds of ill-health. A vote of thanks for his services was accorded Mr. Larsen. Mr. W. J. Rawlinson was elected chairman. The sports committee offered the proceeds of the sports held last month towards the enlargement of the hall. The offer was accepted with thanks. A proviso was made by the hall guarantors that the total cost of the proposed alterations was not to exceed £5O. It was estimated that this sum would cover the cost of an addition of 15 feet. It was decided to go on with the alterations as soon as possible. The following social committee was elected for the ensuing year: Messrs. W. Rawlinson, C. H. Larsen, B. Rolfe, A. Smellie, J. Moody, E. McCoard, N. Rawlinson. A euchre party in aid of hall funds was held on May 8. There was a fair attendance. Mr. C. Wallace won the men’s prize with eight games and Mrs.
E. McCoard and Miss M. Larsen tied for the ladies’ prize with six and ahalf games each; Miss Larsen winning the play-off. After the euchre supper and dancing were enjoyed.. Mr, and Mrs. G. Rawlinson, Miss D. Rawlinson, and Master Gordon Rawlinson are at present on a motor tour in the Auckland district.
