OTAKEHO JUBILEE BALL
350 PRESENT IN SCENE OF GAIETY. The jubilee ball at Otakeho on Friday night was a fitting and successful finale to the re-union of old pupils which took place in the afternoon. The hall was crowded with over 350 people, including a great- number of the old pupils. The dances went with a swing known only to the older generation and the gaiety of the evening was unequalled. The hall was decorated with greenery and coloured lights and the ballroom presented a gay spectacle. The grand march was led by Mr. A. L. Campbell and Mrs. E. T. Burke and a set of lancers was held. Wills’ orchestra provided the music and extras were given by Mrs. A. L. Campbell, Miss. E. O’Dea, Messrs. B. Eliason, G. Smith, Griffin and W. Barleyman. Messrs. C. W. Cooke and A. Hastie were the masters of ceremonies. Supper was arranged by the ladies ot the district, who served in relays, there being six sittings. The tables were decorated in autumn tints with red and apricot streamers and a profusion of maidenhair ferns, this being the work of Mrs. Claude Nicholls. The room w aS canopied with streamers of similar shades. ... Mr. S. H. le Fleming,, chairman of the school committee, referred to the work of the secretary, Mr. L. G. Mudford, and of Mrs. Badland and Mrs. Sprowll, who helped in supplying addresses of old pupils. Mr. Robertson also gave valuable assistance. • Novelty dances were won by Mr. u. Mitchell and Miss I. Eliason (statue dance), Mr. Clarke (Opotiki) and Mrs. H. Corkill (spot dance), Mr. E. P. Riley and Mrs. H. Putt (Monte Carlo), Mr. G. Hunt and Miss A. Maddock (mystery man).
