HAWERA ARTISTS PLAY
NEW PLYMOUTH PERFORMANCE.
MUSIC TEACHERS’ ASSOCIATION.
A programme provided entirely by four visiting Hawera musicians was heard by a large number of members of the New Plymouth branch of the Music Teachers’ Association on Saturday. A splendid variety of concert items was arranged, the performers showing admirable versatility. The visitors, Misses K. Fairhall, Reilly, and M. Mackie, and Mr. R. Maunder, formerly of Wellington, were welcomed by the president, Miss E. L. Dowling, who referred to the value of hearing talent from outside centres. The sonata for pianoforte and violin (Rosenbloom) of which Mr. Maunder and Miss Fairhall played the first movement, was being played for the first time in New Zealand, explained Miss Dowling, ■phe Hawera main school was fortunate in the appointment of Mr. Maunder-as teacher of music classes. The programme was: Pianoforte solos, “Invitation to the Waltz (Weber), “Romp” (York Bowen), Andante from Rondo Capriccio (Mendelssohn), Waltz in D Minor (Chopin), Miss Mara Mackie; songs, “The Maiden” (Parry), May Day Carol (arr. Taylor), “Nocturne” (Michael Head), “Depuis Le Jour,” from Louise (Charpentier), “D’Une Prison (Hahn), “Si Mes Vers Avaient Des Ailes” (Hahn), Miss Reilly; violin solos, “Molly by the Shore” (Grainger, arr. Kreisler), "Pavane” (Ravel), “Spanish Dance” (Sarasate) Mr. R. Maunder; songs, “Sing, Break into Song” (Mallinson), “People Who Have Gardens,” “Sea Wrack” (Harty), “Rose” (Berger),. Miss Mara Mackie; first movement of Sonata for violin and pianoforte (Rosenbloom), Mr. Maunder and Miss Fairhall. Accompaniments were played by Miss Fairhall and Miss Reilly.
