FAREWELL TO HEADMASTER

PRESENTATIONS AT OPUNAKE The pupils of the primary department of the District High School on Friday presented Mi\ Burgess with an adjustable reading lamp and Mrs Burgess with a powder bowl, June Campbell making the presentation on behalf of the pupils. Bruce Whiting told of the regret they all felt at parting with their headmaster. They thanked him for the help and guidance he had given them. Kathleen Boyd presented Mrs Burgess with a bouquet. Later in the day the staff met in the teachers’ room and Mr Bruce' asked Mr Burgess to accept two travel volumes, with the good wishes of the staff. Oh Thursday afternoon the pupils of the secondary department gathered to say good-bye to Mr Burgess. Ida Richards asked him fo accept a shaving outfit from the pupils, and wished Mr Burgess success. Mavis Coad handed a bouquet to Mrs Burgess. Personal. .. Mrs Alf Gadsby, Te Kuiti, isi the guest of Mts S. A. Gadsby, Ihaia Road, Opunake. ■ Mrs S. Webb returned from the New Plymouth Hospital bn Friday. . MiSs Nancy Watt returned from ’Hamilton on Friday to spend the school holidays with her parents, Dr. and Mrs T. N. Watt. . The first echure party in aid’ of the Opuhake Catholic Church funds was held in St. Patrick’s hall on Friday night. The attendance was good. The prizes were won by Mrs M. Magee and Mrs F. Newmah and Mr O. Cobmbes and Dr. E. Griffin. Supper was served by the ladies. Miss M. MacßOynOlds was the organiser.
