NEW POLITICAL PARTIES

“FRUITFUL MUSHROOM SEASON.” REMARKS BY PRIME MINISTER. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, April 28. Asked to-day whether he had heard of the proposed formation of a new political party to be known as the “Economic Nationalist Party,” the Prime Minister, Mr. G. W. Forbes, stated that the “mushroom season” as far as political parties were concerned would probably be a fruitful one. Next year there would doubtlessly be a good many attempts to form new parties before the general elections. Asked whether the Coalition Party would champion the proportional representation system of voting now it had been thrown overboard by Labour, Mr. Forbes said that every member of the Free State Parliament who had been elected under that system now opposed it New Zealand electors could not understand the system and the Labour Party had rejected it because they believed it was no further use to them.
