RUGBY PLAYERS INJURED
ACCIDENTS MAR GAMES. SEVERAL MEN LEAVE FIELD. Injuries among Rugby footballers at New Plymouth were fairly frequent on Saturday but in no cage was the injury severe. Playing in the Star-Old Boys’ senior game at Pukekura Park. S. CliffordJones, Old Boys full-back, received a damaged cartilege in “the left knee when hfe' attempted to kick past Wilkins, a Star three-quarter. Wilkins in blocking the kick was running swiftly, and CliffordJones’ leg was caught by his body. He was able to resume, but later went off. He will be out of the game for several weeks, his loss being serious to the club. The Tukapa team suffered severely from injuries on Saturday. J. Sullivan, the centre-three-quarter, in a tackle by Harrison, the Opunake full-back, received a further injury to his elbow, a ligament being strained. He will not be able to play for a fortnight. C. McNeill, a forward, strained a shoulder ligament. In addition, D. Papps, who played at full-back, was handicapped by water on the knee. The Opunake first five-eighths, Bradley, received a minor knee injury and went off.
The captain of the New Plymouth Boys’ High School first team, B. Meredith, was cut above the eyes when he fell on a player’s boot in a match against Star at the racecourse. Three stitches were inserted in the wound, which will necessitate Meredith standing down for a week or two.
