OPUNAKE MOVIE BALL
IMPERSONATION OF ACTORS The Movie ball held at Opunake to aid the Plunket candidate, was a great, success and was attended by a large assemblage, a considerable number representing popular motion picture figures. The walls were decorated with picture posters and at intervals ther. were the photographs of actors and actresses. Flashing lights on mirrors and streamers of various colours formed attractive decorations. . The grand parade made an imposing spectacle and the costumes were judged by Mr and Mrs L. Whiting, who awarded prizes as follows: Best set, Henry VIII, Dr. E. M. Griffen; Catherine of Aragon, Mrs Griffin; Ahne of Cleaves, Miss P. Fleming; Jane Seymour, Miss M. Thompson (Wellington); Anne Boleyn, Mrs C. O. Edmonds; Catherine Parr, Miss B. Fleming; Catherine Howard, Mrs R. J. Morris. Best individual costume: Lady, Dolores Del Rio in “Ramola,” Mrs J. Downey; men, Tom Mix, Mr R. Fleming. Two special prizes were awarded to°Miss Joyce Whiting, who imperson- . ated Janet Gaynor in “Carolina,” and Master Bruce Whiting as Bert Wheel-
er. Others in costume were: Mesdames Jenkin (Lupe Velez), Mantey (Joan Bennett), Sharp (Florence- McKenney), Bishop (Janet Gaynor), Watt (Myrna Loy), Lambic (Ann Harding), Dalrymple (Tom Walls), H. Smith (Charlie Chaplin), Misses .B. Lambie (Kay Francis), Joyce Whiting (Janet Gaynor), N. Langton (Anna May Wong), .I. Chapman (Helen Hayes), M. Cundy (Barbara Stanwick), A. Bowater (Joan Crawford), E. Fleming (Alice in Wonderland), I. Cheffings (Gracie Fields), E. Cate (Greta Garbo), P. Barraclough (Dolores Del Rio), G. Baylis (Marilyn Miller), W.
